Preparing for Your Practical Assessment

September 02, 2026  ·  2 min read

The practical assessment is where you show you can do the job safely and competently. Assessors are not looking for speed — they are looking for safe, controlled, methodical work.

Before the day

  • Review your course notes, especially pre-use checks and hazard identification.
  • Get a good night’s sleep and arrive early with your PPE.
  • Bring identification and any documents your training center requested.

During the assessment

  • Talk through your pre-use checks and point to what you are inspecting.
  • Set up the equipment properly before starting any task.
  • Work smoothly; jerky or rushed movements cost more marks than taking your time.
  • If you are unsure, stop and ask — assessors value safe decisions.

After the assessment

Listen to the assessor’s feedback, whatever the result. Successful candidates receive a certificate that can be verified online at any time.
