Both terms describe the maximum load a piece of lifting equipment may lift in service.
- Working load limit (WLL) is set by the manufacturer for a product in general service.
- Safe working load (SWL) may be set lower by a competent person for a particular use or condition, such as a certain sling angle.
Never exceed the lower of the two, and remember that hitch type and angle can reduce the load a sling can safely carry.
